Which languages does ClipPod support?

ClipPod transcribes, picks moments and captions clips in 25 languages: English and 24 European languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Russian. That covers most of Europe and nearly all of the Americas.

The short answer

English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Slovenian, Greek, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Maltese.

You don’t pick the language. ClipPod detects it on its own and captions in that language, without translating.

English is transcribed word for word, ums included. The other 24 come out clean: the words as spoken, without filler sounds.

How ClipPod picks the language

When an episode comes in, ClipPod listens to three 30-second samples, from the start, a quarter of the way in and halfway through, and decides which of the 25 languages it is. Three samples instead of one means a music intro or an ad in another language doesn’t throw it off.

Captions stay in the language that was spoken. A Spanish episode gets Spanish captions; nothing is translated to English. The moments are picked from the transcript in that language too, so a French episode’s clips are chosen for what was said in French.

What happens if your language isn’t on the list

The import stops before any moments are found, and the episode page says the language isn’t supported. What the import used is refunded, up to a fair-use allowance of 20% of your plan each month, plus 20% of any pack bought that cycle.

Languages we don’t support yet include:

  • Arabic
  • Hindi
  • Indonesian
  • Turkish
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Chinese
  • Vietnamese
  • Thai
  • Norwegian
  • Serbian

Supported languages FAQ

Does ClipPod work for Spanish podcasts?
Yes. Spanish is fully supported, from Spain and all of Latin America. Episodes are transcribed, clipped and captioned in Spanish.
Does it support Brazilian Portuguese?
Yes. Portuguese is one of the 25, so an episode from Brazil is transcribed, clipped and captioned in Portuguese.
Can it translate my clips into English?
No. Captions are always in the language that was spoken. ClipPod doesn’t translate.
Do I have to tell ClipPod which language my episode is in?
No. It listens to three short samples spread through the episode and decides on its own, before any moments are found.
What if my episode mixes two languages?
The whole episode is transcribed in its main language. Short stretches in a second language may come out wrong, so for a show that switches back and forth, check those clips before you post them.
Does it handle accents?
Yes, for regional and non-native accents in any of the 25. Very heavily accented English is occasionally not recognised as English; if that happens, the import stops and is treated like an unsupported language.
Do non-English episodes cost more?
Importing an episode in a language other than English uses a larger share of your monthly bar, charged after transcription. Making videos uses the same share in every language. The pricing page shows the exact share.
What happens if my language isn’t supported?
The import stops before any moments are found, and what it used is refunded, up to a fair-use allowance of 20% of your plan each month, plus 20% of any pack bought that cycle.
Why are the captions in my language missing the ums?
English is transcribed word for word, filler sounds included. The other 24 languages are transcribed clean: every word as spoken, without the hesitations, which also reads better as a caption.
